Athletics: Switch plea to Bolt

Bolt: Should run in the 400m

Former world record holder Michael Johnson believes that Usain Bolt should run in the 400m to give him a new motivation and challenge.

Bolt stole the show at the Beijing Olympics, breaking Johnson's 200m record of 19.30 before breaking it again this year with a time of 19.19. Bolt also ran the 100m in a time of 9.58, a new world record.

And Johnson, who broke the 400m world record during his glittering career, believes Bolt should step up to the longer sprint.

He said: "He will have to find a new challenge and I think the 400m will be a new challenge for him in a couple of years.

"There is no one that can beat him (in the sprints) at this point, so where does the motivation come from?"
