Guay: Back-to-back wins
Canada's Erik Guay won the final super-G event of the season in Garmisch-Partekirchen, earning him the crystal globe for the season's title.
The 28-year-old was winning only his third World Cup event, but it was enough to secure the globe after it gave him enough points to leapfrog Michael Walchhofer and Aksel Lund Svindal in the standings.
Guay mastered the the Kandahar course in a time of one minute 26.36 seconds with Ivica Kostelic of Croatia second at 0.39secs, with Svindal 0.63secs further back in third.
Austria's Walchhofer began the day with a 46-point lead over Svindal but blew his chances when he could manage only 15th place in the provisional results.
"I didn't think it would happen today, I was so far behind," said Guay, who was 69 points behind the leader after his victory in Norway last Sunday.
"But I knew that if I won today I would have a chance so I took maximum risks and it paid off. It was wild."
Overall World Cup leader Carlo Janka finished in a tie for 11th to retain his lead although rival Benjamin Raich closed the gap with a sixth-place finish.
"I didn't have a great race," Raich said. "I struggled with the fresh snow, but I was able to cut the gap somewhat."
The overall title will be decided in the final two races, the giant slalom and the slalom, over the weekend.
"We can both do well," Raich added. "Carlo is very strong in the giant, I can also be fast and maybe I have an edge in the slalom. I am not making any predictions."
