Rudisha: Record breaker

David Rudisha broke the 800 metres world record for the second time in eight days with a storming run in Rieti on Sunday afternoon.

The Kenyan set a new mark of one minute 41.09 seconds in Berlin last Sunday and bettered it in Italy, clocking 1:41.01.

Last weekend's effort broke the previous best for two laps set by Denmark's Wilson Kipketer 13 years ago.

Rudisha was taken through the bell by compatriot pace-setter Sammy Tangui in 48.20sec before streaking away to win by almost two seconds from another compatriot Boaz Kiplagat Lalang in second.

American Nick Symmonds, third in 1:43.76, and Britain's Michael Rimmer, fourth in 1:43.89, both ran personal bests.

Meanwhile in the 100m, Jamaica's Nesta Carter equalled the fastest time in the world this year.

Carter clocked 9.78s, the same as American Tyson Gay's performance in London earlier in August, to take victory from American Ryan Bailey (9.88s) and compatriot Mario Forsythe (9.95s).

European champion Christophe Lemaitre set a French national record of 9.97s in fourth.
