Greene: Just outside British record
Great Britain's Dai Greene continued his fine season with another personal best in the IAAF Continental Cup in Split on Saturday.
The European champion clocked 47.88seconds in the 400m hurdles to become only the second Briton to dip under 48 seconds, on the same track where UK record holder Kriss Akabusi claimed gold in 1990.
The Welshman, who recorded a time on 48.12 when winning in Barcelona, defeated Puerto Rico's Javier Culson and Bershawn Jackson of the United States.
"Bershawn has only been beaten by one other person, Kerron Clement, this season, so to be one of just two people to beat him feels good and gives me a lot of confidence," Greene told IAAF.org.
"In Barcelona I was expected to win, but here I didn't have the same pressure."
Greene's new personal best is just six hundredths of a second outside Akabusi's record, and the 24-year-old added: "I reckon there's definitely another tenth of a second there and the national record is definitely within reach now.
"It's something that I have targeted, but I wasn't thinking about it today."
Mark Lewis-Francis was another to build on his performance at the European Championships when he recorded a season's best 10.16secs in the 100m.
