England's women will face Holland in the semi-finals of the World Cup after going down 2-0 to Argentina in their final Group match.

Set-piece expert Noel Barrionuevo scored from a penalty corner in the 13th minute while Daniela Sruoga ended their resistance with a reverse stick effort three minutes from time.

The win avenged a defeat by England in Nottingham in July, the opening match of the Champions Trophy which Argentina recovered to win.

England, who had been unbeaten in the competition, will now finish second in their pool and are poised for a last four clash with the reigning World, Olympic and European champions.

Head coach Danny Kerry paid tribute to how his side dealt with the pressure of the match.

"We contained them throughout," he said. "Helen Richardson had a great game and was our best player. I was very proud of how our team coped well with the 12,000 strong crowd."

Argentina will face either Australia or Germany in the other semi-final.
