Floyd Mayweather Snr is confident that Ricky Hatton can beat Manny Pacquiao and become boxing's pound-for-pound number one.

Pacquiao recently defeated Oscar De La Hoya in resounding fashion, paving the way for a big-money showdown with 'The Hitman'.

But having guided his charge to victory over Paulie Malignaggi, Mayweather is confident that Hatton can beat the Filipino if a fight can be agreed.

"I believe Ricky can stop Pacquiao," Mayweather Snr told The Sun.

"The best man will win on the night but it's my man who's going to be the best. Pacquiao is not going to be the best fighter that night."

Pacquiao stopped De La Hoya after using his greater speed and piston-like jab - however Mayweather insists that Hatton's power will negate the threat.

He added: "I can't take that (speed) away from Pacquiao. But if there's one thing that Ricky will take away from him, it will be his jab.

"Ricky is stronger than Pacquiao and I have a whole lot of strategy."
