Keegan: Fourth round exit
Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan believes his side are in need of a confidence boost.
Keegan's second game in charge since his return to Tyneside ended in defeat as Arsenal picked up a 3-0 FA Cup fourth round win at Emirates Stadium.
The Magpies, however, impressed in the first half and demonstrated some real quality which tested Arsene Wenger's men.
Keegan was full of praise for his side's start to the game, but admits the second-half performance was below par.
"In the first half we actually matched them and probably outplayed them," he told Sky Sports.
"The challenge was to put 45 minutes on top of that. But we couldn't do that today.
"We were not scared to play them. It is a shame we did not get a reward for that. There is a lot of quality at this club.
"In the second half there were some things that were not good enough.
"The biggest thing that is missing is confidence. It is the one thing that makes a player find that extra step.
"We have got to get the players thinking a little bit differently because I am different to [former Newcastle boss] Sam [Allardyce]."
