Scott Kerr will turn to his own FA Cup exploits as Lincoln City aim to avoid a second-round shock at Northwich.

The Imps skipper was part of the Scarborough side that overcame Doncaster, Port Vale and Southend in 2003/04 before going down 1-0 at home to Premier League giants Chelsea.

Northwich are hoping to go on a similar run after dumping out Charlton in the first round to set up Saturday's clash with League Two strugglers Lincoln.

But while Kerr knows just what the prospect of a third-round tie means to the Conference North side, the Imps midfielder stressed it is equally important for Lincoln, who have not reached the third round since 1998/99.

Full of confidence

"People think there might be a shock so it's up to us to prove people wrong," Kerr told skysports.com.

"But that's what the FA Cup's all about. It's massive for non-league teams and I've been part of one myself at Scarborough, when we ended up getting to the fourth round and playing Chelsea.

"Northwich have already shown what they can do by beating Charlton, who are second in League One, and it's at their place again so it's going to be a tough game.

"But we're really looking forward to it because we're a League Two side ourselves so it'd be massive for us to get into the hat for the third round and maybe get one of the big boys.

"We went to Telford, who are in the same league as Northwich, and did a job on them so we'll be going there full of confidence as a League team and trying not to become another scalp.

"We expect a similar game. We'll have to match them for hard work and determination, first and foremost, and then hopefully the class that we've got will shine through."

Kerr came in for his first start under new boss Chris Sutton in last Saturday's 0-0 draw with Grimsby and responded with a man-of-the- match performance.

The 27-year-old impressed again despite the Imps losing 2-0 away to Rotherham on Tuesday and he is glad to be back in favour at Sincil Bank.

"It was disappointing to lose against Rotherham when we played so well but the gaffer's been really pleased with me in both games," Kerr added.

"It's been a massive change around for me and I hope it continues."
