Warnock: Rooney is class
Aston Villa left-back Stephen Warnock has hailed Manchester United ace Wayne Rooney as 'one of the best' but says he will have his work cut out on Sunday.
The 28-year-old believes Rooney, who is playing out of his skin at the moment, will struggle to break down the likes of Richard Dunne and James Collins in the Carling Cup final, live on Sky Sports 1 & HD1.
The United striker has notched 27 goals for United this season, ideal preparation for the upcoming 2010 World Cup.
And, having scored 11 in his last eight games, he poses a serious threat to Villa's rearguard who have, so far this season, kept him at bay.
Warnock admits he is relishing the prospect of playing against the England international, likening him to some of the world greats.
"Rooney is one of those players I love watching on TV," said Warnock.
"You would put him, Messi and Ronaldo in the same bracket as the three best in the world.
"You could argue all night about who is the best out of those three but he is one of those players you want to watch which is something that can't be said about every player.
"He has got all the ability in the world. I've been lucky to train with him (with England) and realise how good he is and it is even better when you train with him. You realise what he can do."
Villa take on United in the showpiece at Wembley on the back of an unbeaten run of 12 games in all competitions.
Martin O'Neill's side have managed clean sheets against the likes of Arsenal and Spurs in that spell which has kept them bang in contention for a fourth-place finish in the top flight of English football.
Warnock admits that it will be tough keeping Rooney at bay but feels his team-mates are more capable than any of doing so.
"Richard and James have got a tough task ahead of them - but Rooney will find it tough to do much against those two as well," he said.
"They are two of the best defenders in the league on form and have been fantastic all season."
