Queiroz: In bother with authorities
Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz faces a six-month ban from his job after further investigations into his tirade aimed at anti-doping officials.
The former Manchester United assistant had been banned for a month by the Portuguese Football Federation for the insults, which were made during a pre-World Cup training session in May.
Now, the Portuguese Anti-doping Authority [ADoP] are reportedly flexing their muscles and hope to enforce a further six-month ban on Queiroz after being given the green light to judge the case, leaving his future as national team coach in the balance.
The Mozambique-born manager is already in hot water with the FPF after accusing vice-president Amandio de Carvalho of trying to force him out of his job.
Also under pressure following the team's unsatisfactory display in the World Cup, Queiroz is walking a tightrope and in a statement slammed the FPF and ADoP for speaking with the media before him regarding the case.
He added that if the reports were confirmed he would appeal "notably before the sports court of arbitration."
The 57-year-old will be unavailable to take charge of the national team as they face Cyprus on Friday before a trip to Norway next Tuesday while his suspension is reviewed.
