Former Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz has had his six-month ban from coaching lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Queiroz, who was assistant manager at Manchester United in two separate spells, was handed the suspension by the Portuguese Sports Institute after allegedly abusing anti-doping officials at a Portugal training camp in May.

The incident reportedly saw Queiroz harass and use foul and abusive language at officials who made a surprise visit to test several Portuguese players ahead of the World Cup.

The 57-year-old was found guilty at an inquiry by the Portuguese Sports Institute, which oversees the doping tests, and was banned from coaching at national and club level in August, subsequently losing his job with the national team.

Queiroz has appealed the punishment, with CAS deciding to lift the ban pending the outcome of the appeal.

"CAS has granted the request filed by Carlos Queiroz to lift the six-month suspension imposed by the Portuguese anti-doping agency pending the outcome of his appeal," a statement read on the CAS website.

"The suspension is therefore temporarily lifted."

Bento appointed

Portugal have made a dismal start to their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign in Queiroz's absence, drawing with Cyprus before losing to Norway.

Former Sporting Lisbon coach Paulo Bento has been named as his permanent successor.
