Young Boys defender Scott Sutter is pleased he opted to declare himself eligible for Switzerland after being promised a debut appearance.
Switzerland manager Ottmar Hitzfeld has told the right-back that he will feature against Australia in a friendly on Friday, having caught the eye of the experienced coach.
Born and raised in England, Sutter has a Swiss father and his whole professional career has been spent in Switzerland - with both Young Boys of Berne and Grasshopper Zurich.
Four years ago he revealed he still held hopes of playing for the Three Lions one day, but is now pleased he changed his mind.
"I see Switzerland as my home now," he said.
"When I made the decision before about England, and not playing for Switzerland again, obviously I was a younger player. I'd only been in Switzerland for four years.
"Now I've been here for eight-and-a-half years and things look a lot different."
Coach Hitzfeld led Switzerland to a remarkable World Cup victory over Spain in the summer, but they still crashed out in the group stage of the tournament.
Sutter has revealed he has talked with the German tactician face-to-face, and has been impressed with him.
"He just wanted to find out about me as a person," revealed Sutter, who has learned to speak fluent German. "Not just my football but where I come from, how my life is.
"When you just chat with him face-to-face you just think, 'This is Ottmar Hitzfeld that I'm talking to, like, one-on-one talking about my family!' It's a bit surreal. It's special."
Sutter, who played against Tottenham in the recent UEFA Champions League qualifiers, could make an unlikely appearance against England in a European Championship qualifier next week.
Sky Sports pundit Tony Gale believes Gary Cahill has emerged as England's most important defender ahead of the World Cup.
