Song: backing Gunners
When we play like we did against Portsmouth, nobody can beat us.
Alex Song on Arsenal's form
Quotes of the week
Arsenal star Alex Song has issued a warning to the Gunners' title rivals claiming no one can beat them when they are on form.
The Cameroon midfielder is heading for the African Nations Cup after Arsenal's third round FA Cup tie with West Ham but before jetting off for Angola he backed his teammates to keep up their good run.
The Gunners are just four points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea with a game in hand after Wednesday's 4-1 thumping of Portsmouth.
Midfielder Song insisted: "We do not want to have any regrets, and when we have the opportunity we have to play well - when we play like we did against Portsmouth, nobody can beat us."
Song has proved an important member of Arsenal's midfield this season, acting as a defensive foil for captain Cesc Fabregas, set to be out for a couple of weeks with a hamstring problem.
However, should the Indomitable Lions reach the African Nations Cup final on January 31, Gunners manager Arsene Wenger will have to do without the combative midfielder for some key clashes, including showdowns against Aston Villa and Manchester United.
Song intends to sign off in style before going on international duty.
"I want to go away to the African Nations Cup having finished the job here, leaving the team in a strong position," he said.
"While I am away, I will still have my eyes on what is happening here, because this season is so important for every player in the Arsenal squad.
"I am confident that when I go, we have the players who can do a very good job."
Song called on his team-mates to continue their efforts in his absence.
"The players are confident, and we all really want to do something this season," he said.
"When we lost against Chelsea, the boss said we just have to concentrate to improve because we knew Chelsea could drop points.
"Every player wants to give 100 per cent and is ready for the fight, to continue to improve.
"Last year maybe we missed something, now when we make one mistake we learn from the mistake."
Wenger is set to rotate his squad for the trip to Upton Park, mindful of next week's Premier League game against Bolton.
Arsenal threw away a two-goal lead during the closing stages of their league clash against the Hammers back in October.
But midfielder Aaron Ramsey does not expect his team-mates to make the same mistakes twice.
"It will be tough at West Ham, but we believe we can go into the game and get the right result," he said.
"When you are in matches where you are 2-0 up, the next goal is so important because if the other team get it, you are under pressure again, they start to believe - you have to keep switched on."

Song is an absolute legend, watched him years ago play at centre half in the carling cup . Was raving about his talent then! now we are seeing the true extent of thet talent, awesome at breaking the play up and immense on the ball under pressure! looking forward to watching him in the future as there is a lot more to come!!!

What's up with these boastful players? That was what Terry and Ancelotti said some weeks ago before Chelsea went on a poor run. Now it's the same thing from Song, just because they beat Pompey that was so poor on the day. We'll see when you drop down again.

Love his confidence now!! , what a player he has been this season, he truly has been immense for us, RVP, Fabby grab the headlines which is great, but you want to see someone who is truly improved and would be my the first name on our team sheet now, look no further then Song, he will be greatly missed when he gots to the AN, but we have to carry one like we are, also was well chuffed for him the other day with his goal against pompy and what a header too!!! Love you Song!!

Alex Song is perhaps the most improved player in the Premier League and in my view at the moment the only player, Fabregas aside, that Arsenal just cannot afford to lose especially with such tough fixtures coming up whilst he is away on National Duty. I am afraid Arsenal have no one in the current squad who has the physical strength or the bellows to match unless of couse Wenger has already lined up a replacement to be scooped in the transfer window. Failing that I see a very different picture for my beloved Arsenal come the end of January 2010.
