Luke Boothroyd has left Hull Stingrays to join Elite League rivals Manchester Phoenix.
The Great Britain defenceman becomes coach Tony Hand's third signing following the additions of Carl Graham and Phil Hamer.
After discovering that Hull had yet to offer the 21-year-old a new deal, the Manchester coach wasted little time in snapping up the player.
Hand said: "I watched Luke with interest while we were away with the Great Britain squad and he goes about his business in a very sensible manner.
"He's a good young prospect and I was a little surprised to learn Hull hadn't made him an offer yet.
"We spoke and came to terms very quickly and I'm sure he'll do a great job for us."
