Newcastle Vipers coach Rob Wilson has challenged his players to bounce back from their 8-0 defeat to Belfast Giants with successive victories this weekend.
The Vipers crashed to their heaviest defeat of the season at the Metro Radio Arena last Sunday but remain in the title hunt just six points off leaders Nottingham Panthers.
And Wilson, who is preparing for a home double-header against Cardiff Devils and Sheffield Steelers, believes his side have surprised people with their performances so far this season.
He told The Journal: "I'm very happy with how the season has started for us, despite the two defeats at the weekend.
"We have achieved a lot more than people expected us to so far and it's up to us to make sure we continue that form.
"It's a long season. It's been a good start, but we won't catch anyone by surprise any more because they have seen what we are capable of.
"I tell the guys not to worry about the table at all. It's all about each single game as a one off event."
