One half of the Unified Tag Team Champions and co-captain of Team Smackdown at WWE Bragging Rights Chris Jericho overcame The Big Red Machine Kane on the latest edition of Friday Night Smackdown.
Earlier in the night, General Manager Theodore Long kicked off the show by announcing that The Undertaker would put his World Title on the line against The Big Show at the upcoming Survivor Series pay-per-view event.
On hearing the announcement, co-captains of Team Smackdown argued with each other in the ring as to which one of them deserved a shot at the World Title.
Long wasted no time in setting up a main event match between the two superstars later in the night, with the winner being added to the World Title match at Survivor Series.
In what turned out to be an exciting main event, Jericho went on to claim a surprise victory by executing a devastating Codebreaker on The Big Red Machine, to give himself a shot at the gold in three weeks time.
Rey Mysterio sought answers as he turned out to be the victim of a vicious assault by The Animal Batista this past Sunday at WWE Bragging Rights.
In a shocking attack, The Animal had blamed and pummeled the 6-1-9 superstar for ultimately costing him victory in the Fatal Four Way World Title match.
When the two confronted each other on Smackdown, Mysterio questioned Batista's intentions towards him, to which Batista replied, he was only thinking of himself and no one else.
Batista then went onto attack Matt Hardy from behind before leaving the arena.
Also this week on Smackdown, Dolph Ziggler recorded a count-out victory over The Friday Night Delight John Morrison in a high energy non-title encounter. Does this result put Ziggler next in line for a shot at Morrison's Intercontinental championship?
WWE chairman Vince McMahon organised a surprise match up between CM Punk and rival referee Scott Armstrong. In a one-sided affair, The Straightedge superstar executed his devastating GTS manoeuvre to pin the official in a matter of seconds.
Drew McIntyre's scheduled bout with Finlay ended up a no contest as the Scotsman attacked his Irish counterpart before the match got under way.
Elsewhere, fan favourite Matt Hardy defeated newcomer and boyfriend of Vicky Guerrero, Eric Escobar. Meanwhile The Glamazon Beth Phoenix dominated competition in the form of Jenny Brooks.
Finally, Mickie James won the 2009 WWE Halloween costume contest hosted by Cryme Tyme.
