After more than 12 years away from WWE, Bret "The Hitman" Hart will return as special guest host of WWE's flagship programme Monday Night RAW.
The Hitman's return comes as somewhat of a surprise to wrestling fans around the world considering his very public fall-out with company chairman Vince McMahon back in 1997.
The Excellence of Execution was involved in the infamous 'Montreal Screwjob' that year which saw him controversially lose the heavyweight championship to Shawn Michaels after legitimately not being told the planned finish of the match.
Both parties now appear to have resolved their differences as McMahon officially announced that The Hitman will indeed return to our screens this Monday Night.
Although WWE have announced Hart's return as a one-off, many are speculating that this may in fact be the beginning of a short-term deal that could climax at WWE's pay-per-view extravaganza WrestleMania, set to take place in March.
The WWE Universe are very excited at the prospect of a confrontation between the WWE Chairman and the Hitman. Just what might happen between these two men? And what of a potential meeting between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels?
Last week on RAW, Shawn Michaels insisted that he would be more than happy to see The Hitman host RAW. "Only good things can happen with Bret in WWE," said Michaels.
A statement on the company's website read: "Hell must be frostbitten and winged hogs must have been spotted overhead. On January 4, 2010, Bret Hart returns to WWE.
"For years, the world presumed that the day would never come for the almost mythic Hitman to once again step foot on the WWE turf of Vincent Kennedy McMahon. "Hell would freeze over and pigs would fly - requisite impossibilities - before the true pink and black would ever again be seen on WWE programming.
"As unperceivable as it may be, the new decade kicks off with perhaps the biggest announcement in WWE history.
"Bret is back."
Do not miss the long-awaited return of "the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be," from 2am this Monday Night LIVE on Sky Sports 3.

i love the fact that bret has returned but having seen some of the post i do have to disagree with some of you guys . whos the bigger legend hulk or the hitman ? is it not a question of who your idle was when you were growing up ? for me as a young boy befor the likes of sky sports it was big daddy , giant haystacks . the first time i ever saw american wrestling ( wwf) it was hulk hogan vs andre the giant as the years past i have watched it grow into the phenominom it is today with an ever faithfull hulk hogan the face of wrestling but as time past he faded away and the hitman formally of the heart foundation easily filled his massive boots with his sharpshooter finishing move the hitman was awsome and like when hogan left i was devestaed when the hitman left . the fact is guys those two massive figures in our great sport could never coinside with each other big shame so as hogan leaves the hitman steps back in so i ask without these two massive legends would we have the sport we see today ? i personally think not . its not a question of whos better they each have there own legacy and we should be thankfull of that

Ok this is what is going to happen in my book...... Shawn Vs Undertaker Wrestlemainia. Brett the Special Ref. Only because he befriends Shawn. Undertaker will win cause he will then Screw Shawn. Wounds have not closed. Nothing is forgiven...... Yeah cool

It was a great comeback, even though I hate the fact, that Vince Mc Mahon always has to have things his way and had to give a kick to the groins of Bret. Now I really do hope Bret Hart signs a long term deal with WWE and beats the hell out of Vince. I wanna see the Sharpshooter after 12 years!!!! I hope that Bret does come back again the next monday night raw which will be hosted by Mike Tyson. He has to, after receving a cheap kick by Vince, the show ended, which means.... Bret will return, and the new rivalry between Vince and Bret to be continued.... Hope Bret stays!!!

The only reason he was brought back was to prevent TNA getting the higher ratings for when Hulk began his career with them. They never would have done it if it wasn't for Hogan

what great news, wrestling needs more characters like brett, he was a different breed of wrestler and someone who automaticlly got the respect from the crowd the moment his music hit and he walked down that isle. Ratings will surely only get better for raw when he returns, good move by vince !

Just like every other true wrestling fan who grew up watching Bret "The Hitman" Hart wrestle, I'm so excited and will be really thrilled tonight at 2am, when I tune to Sky Sports 3 and watch WWE Raw. For the first time in 12 years when I hear the theme of "the hitman" and I see my favorite all time wrestling hero walking through that aisle, I'll scream in excitement!! I've always wanted Bret to come back to WWE, that's where he made his name, and became famous, not because of WCW or any other wrestling organisation, but only because of WWE. This should be the hugest headline in sports, and will be the best come back of a wrestling superstar after a departure of over a decade. I wish he could wrestle again even though we all know he suffered a stroke. I hope after tonight, he does show up again on WWE RAW and after hearing rumours about Bret staying until Wrestlemania, well I hope he stays for a longer period, as 4 months can go quick Many reckon there is a competition between Hulk Hogan and Bret, since today will be Hulk's debut at TNA. to whoever reads my comment, no disrespect to Hulk, he is a legend and an icon to wrestling, but Bret's come back is a lot bigger, and many fans would want to see him coming back more than any other wrestler. Personally, I'm a bigger fan of Bret than I would be of Hulk. Hulk is good, but I preffer Bret. Forget TNA and watch Hulkamania, I'd rather watch The Hitman coming back to Monday Night Raw. He is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!!

I think that it is about time that we get some real wrestlers back in the wwe ring. For to long their have been these guys who are nothing but muscle. What ever happend to the days when you had to know what a snapmere was just to be inside of the ring. I would suggest that you bring back a whole host of the old wrestlers so that they can teach these young guys how to do more than just powerslam, and throw a guy to the ropes.

It will be great to see Bret Hart back on WWE programming and it needs to be asked whether anything can shock us anymore? Hart said on several occasions he wouldn't return but will do so tomorrow night. His return is something even more shocking than Michael Owen moving to Manchester United is bigger than if Steven Gerrard did the same given what happened on that fateful night in November 1997.
