Edge returned to the WWE arena in sensational fashion by scooping the 30-man Royal Rumble title.
The Ultimate Opportunist entered the ring as the 29th participant before eliminating John Cena to book his title shot at WrestleMania XXVI.
It was a night to remember at the Philips Arena, Atlanta, with Beth Phoenix making history by becoming just the second woman in WWE to compete in the event.
And, following on from CM Punk's early dominance, the 'Glamazon' eliminated 7ft giant Great Khali after planting a kiss on the mesmerised 'Punjabi Giant'.
The fascinating showpiece increased in excitement when D-Generation X trio Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Cena exchanged blows - the former nailing 'The Champ' with a Pedigree and HBK delivering a dose of Sweet Chin Music on 'The Game'.
Michaels, Cena, Chris Jericho, Batista and the returning Edge were the last men standing, but HBK's hopes of a fairytale win were dashed by 'The Animal'.
The R-Rated Superstar then tossed former Tag Team partner Jericho over the top and when Cena toppled Batista, just two remained.
Battered and bruised, the two former champions matched each other blow-for-blow, however Edge grabbed his chance, as he so often does, to seal his world title shot.
