A Diva's week

Maria: talks about Diva life

The WWE Divas are the most glamorous figures in the world of sports entertainment.

Smart, sexy and powerful, the WWE's roster of Divas work hard both in the ring and out of it, travelling the world to entertain their army of fans.

But what exactly does it take to become a WWE Diva?

Two of the WWE's most popular Divas, Maria and Kelly Kelly, popped into Sky Sports HQ recently and skysports.com caught up with them to explain exactly what their day-to-day job involves.

Here is our guide to a week in the life of a WWE Diva...

In The Ring

MARIA: We do one TV show a week and then there's usually three house shows or live events. Those have so much less production; there's no pyro and there's no time limits so we can basically do what we want.

KELLY KELLY: For the TV shows, if we have a match we'll be there for an hour or two preparing for the match and then there's hair and make-up so we could be there for five hours! For the live shows it's much more free.

M: It's more fan interactive. When we come over here for the live event tour in April, you guys will get to see that and how different it is. I think the crowd response is a lot better here because they're so excited to see us - and I think the arenas are bigger here too... bigger than in America sometimes.

KK: The fans are good. We're the good guys so the fans are usually behind us.

M: They're excited, they're happy to meet us. Sometimes you'll get the wild ones who are jumping up and down and trying to hug you, but we appreciate all of it, we really do. It makes it worth it at the end of the day. All the travel and the craziness.

On the road

KK: I go on the road every Friday and she leaves every Saturday. We spend four days a week travelling. Every night we have at least a 200-mile drive to the next show.

M: It's nice to be with your friends on the road, we all room together and ride together and we have some fun and crazy stories while we're on the road. But sometimes you just want to come home and see your family and just lay on the couch!

KK: One of the highlights of our jobs is we get to see the world. During the day we usually get some time off, so usually we'll have time to go and sightsee for a few hours. Half the time we're tired so we sleep, but if you're really dedicated to going out and seeing things you can definitely do it.

M: I've seen plenty of London because I've been here so many times now for tours. I go off and try and see London because it's one of my favourite cities in the world. I like the shopping, I like the old buildings and I just have a good time while I'm here. I like going out here too, the parties are awesome here.

KK: I actually went to see the Loch Ness Monster when we were in Scotland. A few of us had the day off, so we took the trip to see the Loch Ness Monster. We saw something! I don't know what it was, but I swear I saw something!

Photos and promo

M: Half of our time we're doing that. There's magazine shoots, there's television commercials and this and that... This week we're in the UK doing promos and photos and that's basically four days. I'm not on the road this week, so we're doing a lot of it this week, but sometimes we don't.

KK: Modelling was my passion before the WWE so it's great to be able to combine two of my loves.

M: For me it's great because it's a fashion thing. I like clothes and jewellery and to get to dress up is fun for me.

Staying in shape

KK: Um... I'm not commenting on that one!

M: This girl over here has these genes and it's like, 'it's okay'. I'm hoping one day they kick in to where it's like, 'now lady you've got to go to the gym'! I've been working out since I was 14-years-old but I haven't gone so much lately. I used to go religiously, but now I'm lucky if I get two days a week - and when I'm home I'm busy so I don't go as much as I used to. On the road I go more actually.

KK: But you're looking good... you don't need it girl.

M: As for practising for inside the ring, you do it on the weekend. Every weekend you learn something. You learn stuff while you're in the ring, a girl will do something and you think 'what's going on?'.

KK: That's often the best way to learn.

Time off

KK: We get three days off a week...

M: Well, two-and-a-half because we're travelling on one of them! I travel on a Wednesday, she travels on a Tuesday. That's our travel days and you're exhausted from the road, so that day is pretty much a wash-out. Then you have two days and you're back on the road. But on the last day you're packing... so I would say two-and-a-half days.

KK: Sometimes we luck out and get a weekend off or something! Then I just try and get as much done as I can. I'll visit my family or hang out with friends and stuff.

Royal Rumble will live and exclusive on Sky Box Office at 1am on Sunday night, January 31. Click here for details.
