Cook: scored 95 in semi-final win over Yorkshire

Alastair Cook believes playing in the FP Trophy final for Essex will be on a par with anything he has achieved with England.

The 23-year-old batsman is already a veteran of 30 Tests but is delighted to get an opportunity to appear in the domestic showpiece.

Cook's innings of 95 helped Essex to an 87-run victory over Yorkshire in the semi-final to book a Lord's date on August 16 with Kent, who beat Durham by 83 runs in their last-four tie.

"I'm lucky to play for England in front of packed houses," said Cook.

"That is unbelievable, but this is definitely up there with that.

"To reach a Lord's final is indescribable. You are playing with your best mates.

"I've grown up playing here and know we are going to have one of the great days out in cricket.

"It will be even better if we can produce the goods against Kent - which we know we are capable of.

"To have a chance of winning a trophy with Essex at the home of cricket will be something special."

Essex have had to rebuild after the loss of several experienced players in recent seasons, but Cook can see a bright future for the county.

"We lost Darren Gough, Ronnie Irani and Andy Flower in quick succession, but the guys have worked really hard to turn things around," he added.

"We are nowhere near the finished article yet, but good times are ahead for this county."
