Aldershot defender Ben Herd has been named the new captain of the Shots ahead of the new League Two campaign.

The 26-year-old defender has been handed the armband by boss Dean Holdsworth after previous skipper Anthony Charles was released by the club last week.

"As a team captain Ben is extremely respected from not only the players but the fans too and it is important to have that relationship with the fans," said Holdsworth.

Centre-half Darren Jones has been appointed club captain.
