Aldershot boss Dean Holdsworth says his squad were read the riot act at half-time against Cheltenham before winning 1-0.

Michael Rankine's header secured the club's first home league win of the season.

After a stop-start first half in which neither side threatened a great deal, Holdsworth revealed he pulled no punches in the dressing room in a bid to liven the hosts up.

And it worked, with Rankine heading home Jermaine McGlashan's 72nd-minute corner to seal the points for Aldershot and bring Cheltenham's three-match winning run to an end.

Holdsworth said: "Cheltenham have improved this season and we didn't cope very well first half with their goalkeeper's kicks.

"I lost my rag with them at half-time because I felt it was going to cost us and I wanted us to do everything better. We were below par and I won't drop my standards for anyone and they responded well.

"For the first 10 minutes of the second half we showed some steel, but credit to Cheltenham because they looked a decent side. We needed a bit of brilliance and we got it from the corner. This division is about set-pieces and it was a great attacking header from the big fella (Rankine)."
