The incoming Paul Johnson is the former Saints reserve prop or back-row forward, who has signed on a two-year contract.

The 22-year-old former Blackbrook amateur played for Championship club Whitehaven on a dual-registration this year but also made two Super League appearances.

Wildcats head coach John Kear said: "We've had our eye on Paul for quite some time and we've been following his progress keenly.

"We're assembling a squad based mainly around young players who have the drive and hunger to succeed at Super League level and Paul certainly fits that bill."

The second Paul Johnson, a second rower who formerly played for Wigan, Bradford and Warrington, has joined Crusaders after he was not offered a new contract by the Wildcats.
