The Ligue 1 match between Montpellier and Monaco has been called off after three Montpellier players contracted swine flu.

Club doctor Rene Raimondi confirmed on Thursday that three players had been struck down by the H1N1 virus, and the match is now likely to be played on 13th January after the French winter break.

The clash between Marseille and Paris St Germain had to be postponed last month after three PSG players contracted the illness.

Monaco coach Guy Lacombe is satisfied that the game should go ahead in January, given that neither club has French Cup obligations that week, and was not too concerned with the decision.

"I have just learned of this and I am not getting too concerned about it - there is nothing we can do," he said.

"There is a precedent with Marseille v PSG, and it will be the case (that a postponement will result) each time three players are affected."

Monaco currently lie eighth in the French top flight with 22 points from 12 games while Montpellier are two places above them having picked up 24 in 13 matches.
