Perpignan fly-half Nicolas Laharrague is set to miss up to three months of the new Top 14 season through injury.
The 28-year-old, who won two caps for France, has been dogged by injury in recent years - with Laharrague sidelined for long periods twice last season.
The defeated play-off finalists are now weighing options of a signing a 'medical joker' or an unemployed player as a replacement.
Centre Gavin Hume or scrum-halves David Mélé and Kevin Boulogne are possible options should the club fail to sign cover.
