South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira is making no concrete plans over his future following his side's early exit from the World Cup.

The Brazilian, who won the tournament with his home country in 1994, saw Bafana Bafana fail to reach the second round on home soil this year.

Parreira said on Thursday he will be heading to his homeland for a break at the end of this month, when his contract expires with the South Africa team.

"I'll have a break and then we shall see," said Parreira.

"I shall return to Brazil at the end of my contract in July and I'd like to rest up there till year's end, see family and friends and then see."

The South Africans became the first host nation to fail to progress past the opening group stage of the World Cup this year.

But 67-year-old Parreira commended his side's performance in the tournament and insists football in Africa will continue to improve.

"I want to thank the South African people for having confidence in me - though we did not obtain the hoped-for results we left behind a good account of ourselves," he said.

"Football is going to develop on the (African) continent and I hope there will be another World Cup in Africa."
