Rueda: Honduras heading home
Honduras head coach Reinaldo Rueda felt his side did not show their true colours after making an early exit from the World Cup.
Rueda believes the Hondurans lacked "maturity" but applauded his side for holding Switzerland 0-0 in their final game of Group H.
Los Catrachos, in only their second World Cup, ended Swiss chances of progressing to the second round with a creditable draw at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.
Spain defeated Chile 2-1 in the other game in the group, but Switzerland's failure to defeat Honduras ensured that both sides advanced to the last 16.
Rueda said: "I think the players knew well the importance of this last game. They knew what this game meant for the nation.
"It was a very intense match. It opened up at the end. We lacked precision, we lacked maturity for the final pass and goalscoring."
The coach, however, was pleased with Honduras' endeavour but feels the side were unable to produce their true potential as they exited the competition in bottom spot in the group with a single point and no goals to their name.
"It was a dream to go to the next phase. We were unable to unleash that potential," he added.
"They really showed their courage and brought everything they had.
"We shouldn't have waited until the last match to show our talents, we should have done it in the first match."
