Ziani: Needs surgery
Steven McClaren's Wolfsburg have been dealt a blow with the news that midfielder Karim Ziani is expected to be out for at least two months.
The Algerian international started the club's opening three defeats in the Bundesliga this term, but was absent for the welcome win over Hannover last time out.
Medical experts have now decided that the 28-year-old, who has been struggling with a pain in his groin, needs an operation to fix the problem.
The club said in a statement on their official website: "The experts consulted have determined that Karim Ziani could not do without a hip operation.
"It is expected he will be out for two to three months."
The 28-year-old, who arrived at Wolfsburg in July 2009, has made 13 appearances for the club, but has yet to win a game with the Bundesliga outfit.
