Le Guen: Set to leave role
Paul Le Guen admits Cameroon will be leaving the World Cup with 'lots of regrets' after confirming he will be stepping down as coach.
Cameroon headed into the tournament with high hopes and were expected to at least secure progress through to the knockout phase.
However, the Indomitable Lions followed up an opening defeat by Japan with another reverse against Denmark to leave Le Guen's side with no chance of qualification ahead of their final game against Holland.
Though Samuel Eto'o levelled from the penalty spot, substitute Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored to earn Holland a 2-1 win and ensure Cameroon head home without a point.
Le Guen, who has been tipped to become Australia's new coach after the World Cup, conceded Cameroon were unable to live up to expectations in South Africa.
"We leave the World Cup with lots of regrets," said Le Guen.
"We know that we were carrying lots of hopes from everyone in Cameroon, but we weren't able to realise them.
"My contract is coming up, and it was clear all along I would stop now. Maybe I didn't succeed in unifying the team and bringing the team together.
"I will not point figures or accuse anyone. I thought I would have got better results with this match."
There was at least one momentous incident during the defeat in Cape Town as Rigobert Song's introduction as a substitute ensured the defender became the first African to appear at four World Cups.
Le Guen said: "I brought Rigobert Song on, he's a player with lots of caps, a symbolic player."
