Oleg Blokhin has set his sights on a successful Euro 2012 campaign after returning to manage Ukraine for a second stint.

Yuri Kalitvintsev had been in caretaker charge of Ukraine, who will co-host the next major European championship with Poland.

Kalitvintsev was considered a strong candidate for the full-time post along with Under-21 coach Pavel Yakovenko, while Italy's former World Cup-winning boss Marcello Lippi was also linked with the role.

However, Blokhin won a majority of the votes at a Ukraine Football Federation executive committee meeting on Thursday and is now relishing the challenge of trying to lead the country to glory on home soil.

Responsible

Blokhin steered Ukraine to the quarter-finals of the 2006 World Cup during his first stint at the helm and hopes to reach at least the same stage at Euro 2012.

"The head coach is always responsible for the result," he said.

"I have a double responsibility taking into account the fact Ukraine co-host the Euro-2012 finals.

"We have to qualify from the group."

Ukraine failed to qualify for last summer's World Cup and recent friendly results have been less than impressive, with a series of draws against the likes of Switzerland, Romania and Sweden followed by a 2-0 defeat to Italy in March.
