Crusaders expect Gareth Thomas to be out for four to six weeks due to his broken arm.

Scans have revealed a clean break so the Welsh club are hopeful the injury will heal in time for Thomas, who suffered the injury during Saturday's Super League defeat toHull KR, to return before the end of the regular season on the weekend of September 11.

With Crusaders currently rock bottom of the table they will not be involved in the play-offs.

Crusaders head coach Iestyn Harris said: "It is obviously a blow to lose Gareth because he has been one of our most consistent performers this season.

"The scans show that it is a clean break so we're looking at losing him for anything between four to six weeks.

"The break is not as severe as we first thought and there is a really good chance that Gareth will play before the end of the season.

"Gareth is a very determined character and our physio and conditioning team will be working closely with him to ensure that he returns to action fit and healthy."

Harris is also the Wales coach and in that role he will be keeping his fingers crossed that there are no complications with the injury.

Wales play in the Four Nations tournament for the first time at the end of the current season, playing their opening match on October 29.
