Senna: Penalty double
Real Madrid suffered a first defeat of the season at Espanyol, while Villarreal leapfrogged Barcelona in the table.
Primera Liga champions Real suffered a shocking start at Espanyol, conceding after just two minutes of the 2-1 defeat.
Albert Riera rose unmarked to head home a corner from the right and the lead was doubled in delightful fashion on 54 minutes.
Raul Tamudo was picked out in space on the edge of the box and the striker clipped a brilliant chip over Iker Casillas.
Real set up a grandstand finish when Sergio Ramos turned in a corner late on, but Espanyol held on for an eye-catching win.
Barca's unbeaten start to the season came to an abrupt end at El Madrigal as Villarreal ran out 3-1 winners.
The Yellow Submarines enjoyed a dream start to the game as Santi Cazorla scored after just three minutes before Marcos Senna converted a penalty on 14 minutes.
Bojan pulled one back for Barca on 25 minutes before Senna tucked away his second spot-kick of the match on 35 minutes.
Valencia also moved above Barca in the standings after claiming a 4-2 victory at out-of-sorts Deportivo La Coruna.
Joaquin's penalty put Valencia ahead after 10 minutes and the lead was doubled six minutes later through Ruben Baraja.
Xisco hauled Depor back into the contest on 29 minutes, but Valencia scored a third goal before half-time through Fernando Morientes.
The experienced striker added Valencia's fourth on 74 minutes, with Depor having the last word when Rodolfo Bodipo netted two minutes from time.
Sevilla breathed life into their season after a 2-0 win at bottom club Levante.
Luis Fabiano scored after just seven minutes and he also notched the second from the penalty spot on 14 minutes.
