Johanna Konta has climbed to a career high ninth in the world rankings while Andy Murray has closed on Novak Djokovic and Kyle Edmund is into the top 50.

Konta's brilliant season continued over the weekend when she reached the final in Beijing, losing to Agnieska Radwanksa and in the latest rankings the 25-year-old climbed into the top 10 for the first time in her career.

She rises fives places from 14th and is also into the top eight in the Champions Race which could see her make her debut in the season-ending WTA Finals.

Konta is the first British woman since Jo Durie in 1984 to get into he top 10 and the boom for British tennis continued in the men's rankings with Edmund and Murray making inroads on their respective targets.

Murray won the China Open to a claim a fifth title of the year that sees him continue to close the gap on Djokovic - although it remains a hefty 3,695 points.

However in the race list Murray is now just 1,555 points behind the Serb, who is defending his Shanghai Masters title this week - and with it 1,000 points.

Meanwhile Edmund, who reached the quarter-finals in Beijing where he was beaten by Murray in two competitive sets, has now broken the top 50 for the first time in his career.

His run means he climbs six places to 48 and cements his position as the British No 2 with Dan Evans close behind at 54 in the standings.

Elsewhere in the men's rankings Milos Raonic remains sixth but became the fourth man to confirm his place at the season-ending World Tour Finals.

The Canadian, who lost to Andy Murray in this year's Wimbledon final, reached the last four of the China Open in Beijing before withdrawing with an ankle injury and he joins Djokovic, Murray and Stan Wawrinka as players confirmed for London's O2 in November.

"I have had my best ever season so far this year and it is a great reward to be one of the first few players to qualify for London," said Raonic.

"I love playing indoors and I look forward to finishing 2016 hopefully on a high note."

Four places remain available with Kei Nishikori a hot favourite to secure the next spot, while Rafael Nadal, Gael Monfils and Dominic Thiem are also in top eight.

Nick Kyrgios' third title of the year sees him up a place to a career high 14th in the world and the man he beat in Tokyo, David Goffin, rises two sports to 12th.
