Andy Murray and Elena Baltacha may have been left flying the flag in the singles of the Australian Open, however there was some British success in the doubles.
Ross Hutchins and Anne Keothavong both progressed in their respective doubles competitions.
As the doubles draws got under way, Hutchins teamed up with former Wimbledon champion Stephen Huss to see off the Argentine duo of Agustin Calleri and Eduardo Schwank.
The British-Australian partnership won 7-5 7-5 to set up a meeting with sixth seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski, of Poland.
In the women's draw, Keothavong and Bosnian partner Mervana Jugic-Salkic proved too good for the home pairing of Sophie Ferguson and Jessica Moore, winning 6-3 6-2.
They will also face seeded opposition in round two, namely Maria Kirilenko and Flavia Pennetta, the seventh seeds.
Jamie Murray, back partnering Eric Butorac in the men's doubles, is due to get his campaign under way on Thursday. They meet Ecuador's Nicolas Lapentti and Spain's Tommy Robredo in round one.
Murray is Britain's only representative in the mixed doubles. He plays with American Liezel Huber.
