American twins were bidding to claim their 12th Grand Slam title
Defending champions Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor overcame Bob and Mike Bryan in straight sets to retain their men's doubles title at the French Open and deny their opponents an historic crown.
The American twins were bidding to claim their 12th Grand Slam title and join John Newcombe and Tony Roche as the most successful doubles team of all-time but the top-seeded Mirnyi and Nestor triumphed 6-4 6-4 on the Philippe Chatrier court.
Victory would have also given the Bryans sole ownership of the record for the most Grand Slam doubles titles in the Open Era so they still remain level with Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde heading to Wimbledon.
Mirnyi of Belarus now has six major titles to his name, including four Roland Garros crowns, while his Canadian partner has eight - although this success was just their second together.
