Stefanie Voegele served up a second round shock as she dumped top seed Sorana Cirstea out of the Baku Cup.
Romanian Cirstea won only two games as she slipped to a 6-1 6-1 defeat to become the sixth seeded player to exit the tournament.
Nineteen-year-old Elina Svitolina, the defending champion, booked her place in the quarter-finals with a 7-5 6-2 victory over Silvia Soler-Espinosa.
Kristina Mladenovic will join Svitolina in the last eight having had to battle her way through after losing the first set of her clash with Donna Vekic 6-2.
However, she hit back in impressive style to clinch the match 2-6 6-3 6-0.
Former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone will be there too, courtesy of a straight sets win over Julia Glushko, although she was extended to a tie-break in the second before clinch a 6-2 7-6 (7/2) triumph.
