Seven of the world's top 20 players will jet into Austria seeking glory at the tournament that has recently been upgraded into an ATP 500 event.

Andy Murray is the reigning champion but the British No 1 will be taking a well-earned rest so who are the contenders to his Vienna throne?

David Ferrer, who lost to Murray in last year's final, leads the charge as the top seed aiming for a fifth ATP title of the year having picked up trophies in Doha, Rio de Janeiro, Acapulco and Kuala Lumpur.

Milos Raonic

The veteran Spaniard will be hunted down by a trio of big servers in the Vienna seeding order in the shape of Milos Raonic, Kevin Anderson and John Isner.

Raonic is still aiming to justify his early promise after struggling with injuries but remains a talent to be wary of, while Anderson's hard-hitting style saw him eliminate Murray from the US Open. Isner's ability to thunder the ball down the court makes him a threat.

Italian duo Fabio Fognini and Andreas Seppi are outside bets and Dominic Thiem, the seventh seed, provides Austrian fans with a home-based player to support.
