The best eight females in the world have assembled for the end-of-season finale which begins on Tuesday with two groups of four.
Azarenka is joined by Serena Williams, Angelique Kerber and Li Na in the red group while Maria Sharapova, Agnieszka Radwanska, Petra Kvitova and Sara Errani will contest the white group.
Azarenka lost the US Open final to Williams in September and the Belarusian is taking nothing for granted despite being the favourite to add to her China Open success.
"Every match here is tough. I obviously have great champions in the group. It's tough no matter what. It's challenging, definitely, but I'm looking forward to it," said Azarenka.
Williams is well aware of his Azarenka match-up and is predicting a keenly-contested affair: "I don't really care who I play, when play, as long as I can play. I'm really happy to be here. I'm on the Red side with Victoria, it'll be good."
World number two Maria Sharapova is the favourite to progress from the white group, although she insists there will not be any easy matches in Istanbul.
The Russian said: "When you're coming to the Championships you pretty much know what you're going to get in terms of the level of the group.
"With the field we have this year, I think every match no matter what group you're in is going to be pretty tough from the get go."
