Sara Errani: Still looking to make semi-final place
Stosur entered the event as a replacement for Petra Kvitova who had to pull out with a viral infection, but she failed to take her chance after a huge dip in form during the match with Errani.
After the Italian won the first set, Stosur hit back and showed some superb form in the second, but failed to win a game as she fell apart in the third as Errani won it 6-3 2-6 6-0 in an hour and 50 minutes.
The win means that it will now be a straight fight between Errani and her next opponent, Agnieska Radwanska, for a place in the semi-finals.
