Top seeds Fleming and Soares defeated Austrian Julian Knowle and Slovakian Filip Polasek in two tie-breaks to set up a clash on Saturday with Sweden's Johan Brunstrom and Denmark's Freddie Nielsen, the player who teamed up with Jonny Marray to win the Wimbledon title last year.
Fleming and Hutchins won titles at Eastbourne and Delray Beach last year, and they are determined to renew their partnership before the end of the year.
Hutchins was due to undergo his first chemotherapy session at the Royal Marsden Hospital on Thursday.
On the other side of the world Fleming, who was the second friend, after Andy Murray, that Hutchins told of his illness, is getting on with his career.
The 28-year-old Scot and 30-year-old Soares were 7-6 (7/0) 7-6 (7/3) winners over Knowle and Polasek, while Brunstrom and Nielsen defeated Czech Frantisek Cermak and Slovakian Michal Mertinak 67 (9/7) 6-4 10-6.
