Surprise package Yvonne Meusburger stands between third seed Simona Halep and a third WTA title of the year in Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix final.
Halep fought her way to a 6-2 7-6 (7/1) victory over fellow Romanian Alexandra Cadantu at the Romai Tennis Academy.
Cadantu was broken three times on her way to losing the first set but the Bucharest native did battle her way to a second-set tie-break as Halep produced two double faults.
The breaker would not last long, however, as aggressive baseliner Halep - victorious in both Nuremberg and 's-Hertogenbosch last month - powered three aces past her compatriot to book a showdown with Austria's Meusburger.
Following her straight-sets upset of fourth seed Annika Beck in Friday's quarter-final, Meusburger was even more efficient in beating former world number 37 Chanelle Scheepers 6-2 6-2.
The South African did save two break points to extend the game into a second hour but Meusburger's 73 per cent success rate on her first serve proved crucial.
The 29-year-old is a regular on the ITF Pro Circuit but has only featured in one WTA final, losing to Italy's Francesca Schiavone at Bad Gastein in 2007.
