Top seed Djokovic crushed Frenchman Richard Gasquet 6-1 6-3 and Nadal was equally ruthless in his 6-4 6-2 win over Australian qualifier Marinko Matosevic.
Nadal leads the Serbian 20-15 in their career series and goes into what should be a mouth-watering clash on the back of winning their last two encounters - he had lost the previous seven.
He needed an hour-and-a-half to beat Matosevic and admitted afterwards he is pleasantly surprised by his form after seven weeks off with more trouble with his left knee.
"I'm happy with the way it feels and also having a chance to play after such a long pause," he said. "To be in a semi-final on fast hardcourt now is amazing for me. I'm enjoying every moment.
"I need to try my best and play my best tennis if I am to have a chance against Novak. The court is fast and that will favour him, but I am glad to be in the semi-finals."
Djokovic, a three-time Montreal champion, continued his domination of Gasquet with an eighth win in nine meetings that took barely an hour.
"Everything was working in my game," the world No 1 said. "It was close to perfection. In every part of my game I did almost my best.
"From the start I tried to dictate play and be in control of the rallies. I've done really well. The serve was very efficient, very high percentage of first serves, a lot of aces and a lot of free points.
"That's something that obviously gives you confidence when you're playing at this level."
