The 23-year-old Brit is enjoying the best year of his career and has now managed to reach the main draw of a grand slam by right for the first time.
He has appeared at Wimbledon twice before - in 2009 and 2011 - but both those entries were courtesy of wildcard selections.
Evans, who will face 11th seed Kei Nishikori in the first round at Flushing Meadows, has shone in the Davis Cup as well as on the Challenger circuit this season.
"I'd never been in the last round of qualies before, but I knew I was better than the guy, it was just a case of getting it out there," Evans said.
"I should really have won the first set but I'm pretty happy with how I came back and in the end it was pretty straightforward."
Agony for duo
Fellow Brits Elena Baltacha and James Ward both missed out on a place in the main draw, however, after falling to three-set defeats in the final round of qualifying.
Baltacha served for the match in the second set against Portugal's Michelle Larcher De Brito before going down 4-6 7-5 6-1, while Ward was a break up in the decider but lost 6-3 3-6 6-4 to India's Somdev Devvarman.
It was particularly unfortunate for Baltacha, who has now lost three times in the final round of qualifying at the US Open.
She missed the tournament last year to undergo foot surgery and has dropped to 244th in the world rankings, but had been impressive in her first two matches in New York.
The 30-year-old continued that form as she edged a close first set and then fought back from 3-0 down in the second, winning five games in a row.
But serving for the set at 5-4 she faltered and did not win another game until she was 4-0 down in the decider, although all the games were close.
British men's number two Ward, ranked 175, had never won a match at Flushing Meadows prior to this year and will feel he really should have reached the main draw after taking the lead at the start of the deciding set.
