Benoit Paire won his first match since the Australian Open to reach the quarter-finals of the Grand Prix Hassan II in Casablanca.
The third seed, who was given a first-round bye, has been sidelined for more than two months with a knee injury but came through 6-4 5-7 6-4 against Albert Montanes.
He next faces another Spaniard in eighth seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, who defeated Carlos Berlocq 6-2 7-5.
Paire told atpworldtour.com: "I'm very happy to be back on the court. The quarter-final against Garcia-Lopez will be a tough match since he's a great clay-court player. I've played him a few times and the matches were always very close."
Fourth seed Marcel Granollers reached the last eight with a 6-3 7-6 (7-3) win over fellow Spaniard Albert Ramos while Roberto Carballes Baena needed more than three hours to beat fifth seed Joao Sousa.
It was a welcomed victory for Granollers, who has had more success in doubles over the past couple of seasons and had not won a singles match in two months.
