Swiss underdog Oprandi, who had stunned third seed Yvonne Meusburger of Austria in their quarter-final clash, edged the first set before Hantuchova, who progressed to the last four after China's Peng Shuai suffered a thigh injury, rallied to level the contest.
However, Oprandi, whose year has been hampered by fitness problems and is ranked 101 in the world, fought back again to clinch the decider and progress following almost two-and-a-half hours on court.
There was no such drama in the other semi-final where Teresa Torro-Flor came through the all-Spanish contest against Garbine Muguruza, the fifth seed, in straight sets, winning 6-0 6-3 in just under an hour.
