Cincinnati Masters Tennis: Andy Murray set for John Isner test

Andy Murray will look to step up his preparations for the US Open starting later this month with a win over John Isner in the Cincinnati Masters on Thursday, live on Sky Sports 3HD.
The Scot put the disappointment of last week’s Rogers Cup exit at the hands of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga behind him as he cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Joao Sousa on Wednesday.
Murray’s reward is a quarter-final clash against last year’s Cincinnati runner-up John Isner who beat South African Kevin Anderson 6-3, 6-4.
Two-time Cincinatti winner Murray is eager to eliminate the mistakes which cost him last week’s match against Tsonga as he builds towards the final grand slam of the year at Flushing Meadow.
“The conditions here are more similar to the US Open than last week, so it’s good to get matches,” Murray said.
“I felt good last week. I played a pretty good match against Tsonga, who is obviously playing well. I maybe messed it up a little bit in the third set.”
World No 11 Isner also endured a disappointing tournament in Toronto but the 6ft 10in big-server is hoping to recapture the form which saw him successfully defend his Atlanta Open crown a fortnight ago.
“I did very well in Atlanta a few weeks ago and I had a few hiccups after that,” he said. “I lost two close matches after that - a lot of matches I play are generally close.
“I wasn’t able to win my last two but I came here, I refreshed and I wasn’t tired or anything.
“The good thing about playing in North America is that I was able to go back home to Florida and sleep in my own bed. I came up here relaxed, refreshed and ready to go and so far so good.”
You can watch Andy Murray take on John Isner live on Sky Sports 3HD from around 6pm
