Rafael Nadal will make a decision about his participation in the US Open next week but Juan Martin del Potro will miss the event.
Nadal is struggling to overcome a wrist injury which forced him to pull out of the Toronto Masters last week and miss the ongoing Cincinnati event.
The world No 2 was hurt in training and told he needed three weeks rest - he has not played since losing to Nick Kyrgios at Wimbledon in July.
"Decision on US Open participation for @RafaelNadal postponed till early next week. No decision today or tomorrow," tweeted a spokesman for B1PR, the Spanish star's representatives.
One player who will definitely miss the tournament at Flushing Meadows is former champion del Potro.
Del Potro's absence from the final Grand Slam of the year is not a surprise as he has been missing from the ATP Tour since undergoing wrist surgery in March.
The Argentinian battled through pain in his left wrist that first flared up at the Australian Open in January, and he withdrew from a couple of tournaments before giving up his bid to avoid an operation.
Del Potro underwent an operation on his right wrist after winning the US Open in 2009 and missed much of the next season.
Live coverage of the US Open starts on Sky Sports 3 HD on Monday August 25.
