The evergreen Svetlana Kuznetsova returns to the event she won all of 13 years ago as one of the top eight seeds thanks to another consistent campaign.
At 32, the Russian has reached the quarter-finals of seven events this year and, while she's won none of them, few will relish facing her.
Indeed, in 2017 she has beaten both the top seed Karolina Pliskova and the US Open favourite Garbine Muguruza, who she also took to three sets in Cincinnati.
However, this year's Wimbledon represented her first run to the final eight of a Grand Slam since 2014, while she hasn't reached the semis of a major since the turn of the decade.
One win from her last three visits to Flushing Meadows makes her a favourable draw on paper, but the veteran will command nothing but respect from her opponents in New York.
