This teenager cracked the top 20 in 2008 to continue her impressive climb up the rankings.
The French number one's results on her favourite claycourts were largely responsible.
Cornet really came to the fore in Rome where she made the final as a qualifier and beat two top-10 players along the way.
Later in the season she picked up her maiden WTA title in Budapest and she will be keen to improve on other surfaces during this campaign.
Yet to go beyond the third round at a Grand Slam, but it is surely only a matter of time before she does.
She celebrates her 19th birthday during the tournament, but it is hard to see her rejoicing by lifting the trophy.
