Fully deserved his recent elevation to world number three after a year which saw him reach his first Grand Slam final at the US Open and win three Masters Series crowns (in Cincinnati, Madrid and Miami).
Murray has already beaten his peers, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, in 2009 but repeating such efforts on clay will take some doing.
This is without doubt Murray's weakest surface, although he showed recently in Monte Carlo that he can at least be competitive on the terre battue.
Unlike his predecessors as British number one, Murray is happy to trade with all-comers from the baseline and patience, or a lack of it, has often been the key to his downfall in the past on this surface.

Is likely to have a good run, although the claycourt specialists - not to mention he other members of the 'Big Four' - will still fancy their chances against him here.
